Reading exam exercises

Now that you know a bit more about reading, why not try a small practice based on this part of the test?

Keep in mind that the following test doesn’t represent a real reading test. It is just an example of the types of questions studied earlier work, using our own content.

So let's start.

1. In this part of the test, you will read a text about technology and augmented reality. Then, you will answer five multiple-choice reading comprehension questions.

"Augmented reality

You have probably heard about Pokémon Go, a downloaded app that became more popular than Facebook within just a few weeks of being launched. So what’s all the hype?

This is partly due to nostalgia because it is an anime show that many people grew up watching. It is also partly due to the immersive sensation the game generates because users can find Pokémon in their own environment using their cell phone cameras. The dreaming of being a Pokémon master has come true for so many!

The type of technology used on this app is called augmented reality, which is a mix of real and virtual worlds. Unlike virtual reality, which fully immerses a user in an unreal world, augmented reality takes as a foundation the material environment and combines it with virtual elements to create a mixed reality. An example of it might be a video game developed to include your home’s living room.

In 1992, the concept was introduced by Tom Caudell. Today, aside from applications there are augmented reality devices like Google Glass and Microsoft HoloLens. Imagine if you could get these programs on your computer and interact with them as if they were in front of you without the need for equipment other than a pair of glasses. Cool, don’t you think?

The use of this type of technology goes beyond entertainment. Apps like Google Sky Map, an astronomy application, tells you the location of stars, galaxies, and planets using your cell phone camera and WordLens, a simultaneous text translator of captured images.

Augmented reality apps like Project Esper have also been created to study human anatomy. Using this app,, medical school students can interact with the human body in true size and detail any part of it.

Companies also have developed lenses that allow soldiers to focus at longer distances, thereby amplifying their fields of view.

What about the ethical dangers and consequences of using augmented reality? Just like with other technologies, it is up to us whether we use it to build or destroy. From a functionality standpoint, it’s important not to lose sight of the real world around you when using these devices so you can avoid accidents."

2. In this part of the exam, you will find the article "What is machine learning?" that is divided into two sections. Each of these parts is decomposed into fragments, sentences, and ideas.

Keep in mind that these paragraphs are not organized in their original order. You will have to re-organize the article so it makes sense from the main section of each part.
